Thank you for taking a minute to learn more about us. This is a big decision, and we are a bit in awe of your courage in considering an adoption plan for this child.

If we are chosen as adoptive parents, we hope to remain in contact and send updates and photos as the child grows, potentially scheduling time together. We intend to proudly celebrate adoption in our home and look forward to telling the child about their birth mother and the incredibly difficult choice she made, and how it was made out of love.

We also intend to celebrate the cultural background of the child, and recognize the significance of a healthy racial, ethnic, and cultural identity. We look forward to celebrating our unique identity as a family, and openly discussing the sometimes challenging realities of being a potentially multi-ethnic family in a diverse community.

We know this process is not an easy one, and we are thinking of you. Know that we think you are strong and brave, and we deeply admire you. We hope that you find love, peace, and comfort, wherever this journey leads you.

FAQ’s about placing a baby for Adoption

I'm considering giving my baby up for adoption. How much does that cost?

It won't cost you anything. If you choose to place your baby for adoption, all of your medical and legal fees will be covered and you may be eligible for financial assistance with other pregnancy-related expenses.

I'm experiencing an unplanned pregnancy and don't know who the birth father is. Can I still place my baby for adoption?

Yes. Even if you don’t know the identity of the birth father, you can still choose to make an adoption plan. However, every adoption situation is different. The adoption social worker you’re assigned to will get to know you and your story first, and then guide you through the process accordingly.

When is the right time to talk with an adoption professional?

You can make an adoption plan at any point in your pregnancy, even after the baby has been born. But, it's important to start the process as early in your pregnancy as possible. Connecting with those resources will allow you to gain access to important medical services, including prenatal care, to help ensure a healthy pregnancy.

When I create an adoption plan, will I get to choose who is in the room with me during delivery?

One aspect of your adoption plan is the "Hospital Plan" an outline of how you'd like your hospital stay and delivery to go. You can craft this on your own or with the help of your adoption social worker. But everything is up to you. You’ll be able to choose who comes to the hospital with you, who is in the room with you during delivery, and how much time you’d like to spend with the baby before signing the final papers.

How much contact will I have with the adoptive family after I place my baby with them?

As part of your adoption plan, you'll determine whether or not you’d like to have an open or closed adoption or something in between. Open adoptions may include phone calls, messaging (via social media, email, or text), and/or periodic visits each year. Closed adoptions may include no contact at all or annual updates provided to the birth parent(s) by the adoptive family. Each post-adoption relationship is different and can vary based on what an expectant mother chooses in her adoption plan.

A Big Brother

11/11/2022

Our son Everett just turned four years old this past week. We had a small party with some of our family and close friends. We had a bonfire, and painted pumpkins and made smores. It was a really memorable time celebrating Everett—his joy, creativity, and love of others. On his actual birthday he sat down and drew a few notes to some of his friends. He wanted to include one for the new baby, so he dictated a message for his baby brother or sister, and it was too cute not to share. It's been fun to see Everett grow older, to better understand what it will mean for him to be a big brother, and to be excited by the idea.

"Hill-oween!"

07/11/2022

We had a really wonderful halloween this year. We all chose to be NASA employees—a scientist, an engineer, and of course an astronaut! We joined up with some friends and their kids and headed to Capitol Hill for the crazy 'Hill-oween'! Everett loved watching everyone in costume, and saying "trick or treating!" at every house, although he may have enjoyed quiet play time with is friend after the chaos of trick or treating even more :) We loved getting a chance to hang with good friends, and celebrate the season on the steps of the Capitol. One more reason we really love living in DC!

Cousin Time

07/11/2022

For July 4th our family went to visit my parents. My brother and his wife were there as well, with their daughter Kaya. Everett found out he is going to have another cousin! We are thrilled. Everett and Kaya are the best of friends and get into all kinds of mischief together. They absolutely love playing together, and learning to share with one another has been great practice as they both now prepare to be older siblings! They both look out for each other and love playing make-believe games like going to space.

We had so much fun over the weekend. We waded in the lake in my parent's neighborhood, baked a strawberry pie, had a cookout, tried ube ic cream, set off fireworks and did sparklers in the backyard, and enjoyed being with family. While the attached photo is just one of my favorites of the two of them, we took a sweet video of Everett and Kaya watching backyard fireworks together that you should be able to check out. These are definitely memories I want to be able to remember!

Enjoying the Spring!

12/07/2022

After finally thawing out from winter, we have been enjoying the spring! We love taking advantage of how beautiful DC is during this season, and we love getting out to the riverfront, enjoying the cherry blossoms, and just being able to spend time in the backyard again. Last weekend we even brought the grill back out, and made a fire in the firepit, and had some friends over for a cookout. Everett's favorite thing is helping out Dad, and locating every last little stick in the yard to put in the fire. He loves having what he calls "camping-outs" in the back yard.

With grandparents living less than an hour away on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, we also have all been taking advantage of Grandaddy and Nana's house to get a weekend away from the city, and to relax by the Chesapeake. We all enjoy hanging out by the bay and to getting out into nature, and with the weather finally starting to warm up, everyone is looking forward to taking out some kayaks into the water!

Our photo is a more accurate depiction of what taking a family photo with a three year old really looks like!😊
